About Delta Blue Unicorns

We are based at Mulben, near Keith in Moray, we purchased a greenfield site and built our wonderful facility from scratch. We have 12 indoor stables, large indoor school, outdoor school, agility school and round pen alongside over 30 acres of grazing.
We take in horses and ponies in need. They may be any type, height or age. They may be rescues, retired, horses needing rehabilitation, or from owners who can no longer care for them due to unfortunate circumstances. We are currently full to capacity but if you would like to join the waiting list please contact us.
We have some horses which can be ridden and can be shared or loaned from our yard, we feel this is best for them, so they are still able to be in their familiar environment. If you wish to enquire about this, please do contact us.
We offer group and individual services. We have Blue Unicorns, Asgar, Countrymen and She shed. There is information on each of these under services.

Delta Blue Unicorns was started by Fran Davies in 1998 in Shropshire, operating a lovely small yard of ten horses in a unique lowland heath setting. This fulfilled Fran's lifelong wish ever since she started riding in the Netherlands at age six on large horses : no native ponies in the Netherlands! She was so excited to qualify for her first dressage competion in 1973 but then there was a problem : no cars were permitted on the roads in the Netherlands in 1973 so how to reach the competition? In the time honoured Dutch way by bicycle of course.

Moving to Britain in 1975 presented a new barrier to riding: the riding school did not take children who did not speak English. Literal translation with dictionary in hand proved inadequate but English was learned in a matter of months and riding recommenced. Then Fran's parents were moving abroad to Malaysia so she was to be left in England all alone...no...she was given her first horse Touchdown a beautiful chestnut mare who she kept at local stables. More horses, agricultural college, work and family followed in Eseex and Hampshire before finally after much planning and saving the big move to Shropshire.

As the demand and the operation grew, the company moved from Shropshire to Scotland with horses, cat, dog, children and of course Angora goat Icarus. We were very grateful to find our current wonderful site in Moray on beautiful moorland teeming with wildlife from buzzards to wildcats. At the time there was only the traditional stone steading containing wonderful old-fashioned stables with cobbled floors and wooden mangers, which we shall be showcasing at our Historic Horse events. The farmhouse had been an original butt and ben which has now been extended including literally raising the roof! Ten childern were born and brought up there who still live locally and visit from time to time. Fran and husband Brian, dog Lisette, cat Aoife and currently seventeen horses are loving life in Moray and have even learned some Doric and are looking forward to welcoming you!
